Family Bridge is a community-based family shelter program serving Washington County since 1999. We at Westside United Methodist Church are proud to partner with nine area churches to help end homelessness one family at a time. For more information about the program see the Family Bridge website: Family Bridge Program. (http://www.family-bridge.org/)
Grace for the Road is a front line outreach activity that focuses on meeting an immediate need of local homeless individuals. Lunch sacks are packed by volunteers with a variety of non-perishable items from the five food groups as well as a treat and a drink. A sticker and ribbon are the finishing touches explaining that the bag is given in God’s love. Packed Grace Bags are available at the church for pickup by Westsiders and friends to tuck into their cars making distribution handy whenever someone in need is seen. Westside distributes approximately 100 bags per month.

The Lord’s Harvest House is an outreach ministry of Westside United Methodist Church, serving as an emergency food pantry for the Oregon Food Bank. Families experiencing a need for food come to our shopping pantry and select the individual food items from each food group that their family will enjoy. The pantry is open by appointment only, though, our pantry volunteers seek to be flexible and meet the scheduling needs of the families we serve.
Primary referral is through Care to Share, 503-646-8378. First time service may also be accessed through the church office, 503-643-8070.
Volunteers are always welcome. Please contact Jan Roberts for opportunities robertj@ohsu.edu.
Migrant Camp Ministry
Westside United Methodist Church is part of a consortium of churches in Washington County that provide services to the migrant farm worker camps during the summer months. The Oregon Food Bank provides food staples to the consortium members in May for distribution to the camps throughout the summer.
Our church has a connection with Campo Heikes, located approximately 7 miles west of Beaverton, OR. This camp houses approximately 20-30 men. From the end of May until early August our congregation provides toiletry bags, household goods, clothing, bedding and other items as needed on a weekly basis. We also provide a hot meal one night per week and have a picnic the third weekend of July to celebrate the harvest, complete with Bingo prizes and a meal.
Westside also participates in a School Supply Drive in August for the children of migrant farm workers. Each year, approximately 600 children receive a portion of their required school supplies.
