Thank you for visiting our website. Westside UMC is a great church for people of all ages. It is a place where you can “come as you are,” regardless if you have a church background or not.
Our congregation is made up of many young families (we are currently enjoying a baby boom), but we have and value people of all ages and stages of life. We have programs designed for each. Our Sunday morning worship services are both casual and meaningful. We would love the opportunity to meet and welcome you. Come visit us soon.
Westside's History
Westside UMC was chartered as a new United Methodist congregation on June 2, 1996. Rev. Dan Pitney began the new church by gathering a small group of adventurous people who wanted a church home where you could “come as you are.”
In March of 1996, the first worship service was held at Five Oaks Middle School in Beaverton. Westside continued meeting in the school for six years, hauling equipment and materials back and forth each week in a truck. Originally, office space was provided by the Aloha United Methodist Church and then a house was rented for office and meeting spaces while the church continued to grow.
In the spring of 2002, the current property was purchased from another congregation. We moved in later that fall and adapted the building to fit our needs. The current membership of the church is 176 people. We average 156 people in attendance on Sunday mornings.
Our Mission
The mission of Westside United Methodist Church is to connect people to Jesus Christ, nurture them in the faith, and equip them to serve in our community and world.
We believe this best happens through the five purposes of the church: Worship, Fellowship, Mission, Ministry, and Discipleship.
God is calling us to be a multi-cultural congregation, known for serving our community.
Our Staff
Pastor: Dan Pitney has been an ordained United Methodist pastor for 27 years, serving churches in Aberdeen and American Falls, Idaho, and northeast Portland, before beginning Westside UMC.
Secretary: Sherrell Davis is our part-time church secretary. Her office hours are 1:00-5:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday each week.
Children’s Ministry Director: Kathy Anderson is our interim Children’s Ministry director. She is a retired teacher who has a passion for kids and a great vision for ministry to them.
Youth Director: Christy Dirren has been working with youth for several years and loves teenagers. She is currently the director of our Cooperative Youth Ministry that includes the youth of Westside, Aloha, and Christ United Methodist Churches.
Worship Music Director: Jennie Pitney leads and directs the music and musicians for both of our worship services. Jennie has been singing, playing, writing, recording, and leading Christian music most of her life.
